Sucker Punch: A Friendly Feminist Film Review

You should check out this review of Sucker Punch, by Katie E. I'll admit I was really intrigued when I first saw the previews, but even then I knew this movie would most likely just reinforce sexualized images of women, all while pretending to empower women.

Does anyone, anywhere out there, know how to make a quality film in which women are prominent main characters, who actually talk to each other, about something other than dudes, without those women gaining all their power by fulfilling male sexual fantasies?

  1. I've Loved You So Long - It's is primarily about two sisters, although there are prominent male actors.

    The Color Purple perhaps.

Sophie Scholl: The Final Days - There are some allowances here as well. There is only one major female character but she overshadows EVERYONE.

Au Revoir Les Enfants - French film about WWII

That is all that I can think of. Any american drama has some of those aspects that you try to exclude. The only one that I can really think of is the new version of True Grit. A very cool Cohen brothers film.
